François Namur
François is a visiting instructor from Lyon, France, as well as the French House Activities Coordinator at UVa. He has a Research master’s degree in English Studies from Université Lumière Lyon II and a university diploma in Teaching French as a Foreign Language. His primary research interests include variationist sociolinguistics, corpus linguistics and Scottish English. In particular, François wrote his Master’s dissertation on the Glaswegian accent and explored the relationship between the Glasgow accent and various social factors (e.g., age, gender, social class, sense of local/national identity). Besides linguistics, he is very interested in foreign language pedagogy and worked as a French language assistant at Jordanhill School in Glasgow in 2019-20. This year is François’s first time in the United States and he hopes to seize this opportunity to explore Charlottesville, Virginia and the United States.
