Pierce Lockett

Doctoral Student

Pierce is an incoming first-year doctoral student at UVa. His primary research interests include 20th- and 21st-century French and Francophone fiction, urban studies, and affect theory, with secondary interests in banlieue literature and film, narrative, and postcolonial studies. In particular, Pierce hopes to explore the ways in which urban literary texts link affective states (desire, boredom, agitation, etc.) to both aesthetic and political aspirations. In addition to his scholarly research, Pierce maintains an active interest in foreign language pedagogy, second language acquisition, and writing pedagogy.

Prior to UVa, Pierce served as the Assistant Director of the Writing Center at Muhlenberg College.
